Thanks to an older collaboration, this year also, from 23rd to 26th of May, a group of teachers and students from Denmark, the city of Kolding, visited four prisons in Romania.
Through an old friend and collaborator, Karsten Moller, two teachers and two students of Bible College in Kolding, have sacrificed time and resources to be an encouragement and support for those imprisoned. The itinerary of this group was held as follows:
The first stop was in Cluj Napoca, so the Maximum Security Penitentiary Gherla, Outer Section Cluj Napoca, was held a meeting with nearly 100 detainees. The testimony of those present had a special impact for women detainees. Testimony of battle with drugs and evidence of release of these addictions has provided real encouragement.
The second stop was in Targu Mures, thus in Penitentiary Targu Mures were held several meetings that were attended by 60 prisoners. This time also, testimonies that exemplified life of fighting crime was understood and assimilated by all present.
The third stop was in Aiud, thus in Aiud Maximum Security Penitentiary, during several meetings, 80 detainees were present. A motivator key for those present was the testimony that the plans that we do when we're young may change when we do not expect. A powerful example was offered by a former chef from France who later came to take things from the beginning as a student and later professor in the College of Kolding.
The fourth and final meeting took place in Arad, thus in Maximum Security Arad Penitentiary, our volunteers have talked to 300 detainees. This time also the program offered to those present new evidence that people can fail but after taking personal mistakes can start a new process of straightening and integration into everyday life.
A common element that has impacted every prison was that inmates were aware and were impressed that people who live 2,000 kilometers away, which faced similar problems, have chosen to knock all this way in order to share their experience and how they found the necessary resources to overcome their addictions and problems of past life and to grasp a new start. We never lacked musical program which was conducted both by those coming from Denmark and also by volunteers from Romania, who accompanied the group in various prisons where they were.
We thank both our staff and volunteers who have added their efforts for the good of this meetings. We are also grateful that each time prison staff was involved in order to achieve the purposes of these meetings. We want for all our activities to lead to the release and reintegration of those who are still tributary to old mistakes and sins.
