As part of the project "Handmade Art", we have organized an exhibition with items that were made by women imprisoned at the Maximum Security Penitentiary Gherla, Cluj Napoca Outer Section.
The exhibition took place over three days beginning with September 22nd 2015 in the lobby of Octavian Goga County Library. In opening the library manager spoke, Ms. Sorina Stanca who had words of appreciation to the project and those involved, while stressing the need to involve civil society in the subsequent absorption of persons in detention.
Mrs. Lidia Stan, project coordinator, talked about the value of investing in people, the importance of teamwork and the joy of spending a creative time with those involved (representatives of the foundation, prison staff, volunteers and women deprived of liberty).
Educators from the prison that were present at the event, Mr. Alexander Lucaciu and Ms. Motoc Hortensia have thanked Rescue foundation for long duration envolvement, which is a resource for educational services.
The importance of the project is given by the fact that the exhibits will be sold and with the money gained Rescue Foundation will buy school supplies for about 40 children with parents in prison. As the press stated, "prison detainees sell their works of art to help their children."
I was honored by the presence of numerous guests, friends and collaborators, and the presence of local media.
